Thanks to the encouragement of Dave MacPherson I join the world of bloggers. I can only aspire to his wit however with a bit of luck may just bring a new view to current issues!
Philippa is currently serving her second term as Mayor of the Thames Coromandel District Council. When she was first elected in 2004 she became the first female Mayor for Thames Coromandel. She is also currently the youngest Mayor in New Zealand. Prior to becoming Mayor she was the Deputy Mayor and Chair of Regulatory Committee from 2001-2004 and spent her first term in Local Government on the Tairua-Pauanui Community Board (1998-2001). Philippa is on the National Council of Local Government New Zealand, representing the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. She is the Chair of the National Council Climate Change Committee, in addition to holding the Environment Portfolio. She also the chairs the Rates Postponement Consortia, and is a member of the Regional Transport Committee and Civil Defence Committee. Philippa is a popular speaker and has presented for organisations such as Chamber of Commerce, Ingenium, Wasteminz and the Local Government Association of Queensland.
